Helical Piles

Chester, PA-32

Helical are Shore’s bread and butter – we have crews out across the Greater Northeast area daily drilling all sorts of piles. We can help you settle on a deep foundation solution and get a crew out to the project area for drilling.

  • Helical can be used for both new and existing foundations.
    • Installing piles on a new foundation ensures its stability – using helical piles on an existing foundation ensures ongoing safety and prevents future settlement issues.
  • They can be applied to scale.
    • Our team has the know-how and experience to install either one drill at a residence or hundreds at a commercial establishment.
  • Their application is flexible – these pile systems can be installed year round, in any weather condition.
    • We all know how varied the weather can be in the Northeast – our team is ready to go year-round.

Micropiles are one of the most flexible options available for deep foundations. Micropiles are a solid option if you feel like your site might have some special restriction or challenge that would make drilling helical piles difficult.

  • Any site, any soil.
    • o Micropiles are used to transfer loads through unstable soils, so they can be a great solution when helical piles or other deep foundation methods may not work.
  • Limited Access Areas
    • Micropiles can be installed with a variety of drilling equipment. This means that our team can install micropiles in less than ideal areas. This can include urban environments, areas with man-made obstacles, and more.

Safety is our top priority – that’s why we recommend load testing prior to foundation design. With this method, you can be certain of the load capacity of piles – and it also helps engineers with planning the best design for you. While we would need to examine the site to determine which test to run, below are a couple of common tests we have run on multiple projects:

  • ASTM D-1143 Standard Test
    • We recommend the ASTM D-1143 Standard Test for Piles. It can be applied to the entire spread of deep foundations, regardless of the installation method. Rather than specifying one method, it provides several options.
  • ASTM D-4945 Dynamic Test
    • The ASTM D-4945 Dynamic Test confirms both the velocity and force induced in a pile during an axial impact. This is used to confirm the performance of the impact system. Ideally, the installation equipment and procedure should match those that will be used for the production piles.
